Kanye West Faces New Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Kanye West Sexual Abuse Lawsuit
A model has filed a federal lawsuit against Kanye West, alleging sexual assault and strangulation during a 2010 music video shoot.

The rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, is facing a federal lawsuit filed by model Jenifer “Jenn” An, a former contestant on “America’s Next Top Model.” The suit alleges that during a 2010 music video shoot at New York City’s Chelsea Hotel, West sexually assaulted and strangled An, NBC News reported Nov. 23.

According to the complaint, in an act known as “pornographic gagging,” West shoved his fingers in An’s mouth, choking her until she lost consciousness. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York also names Universal Music Group, accusing the company of failing to investigate or address West’s conduct.

This is not the first time West has faced such allegations. Earlier in 2024, his former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, filed a lawsuit claiming that West turned his office into a “sexual playground” and subjected her to unwanted advances. West has denied these allegations, labeling them as baseless.

The entertainment industry has seen numerous instances where models and actresses have accused celebrities of sexual misconduct, highlighting the power imbalances that can lead to exploitation. For example, in 2023, multiple women filed lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs, accusing him of sexual assault, sex trafficking, and physical abuse, with incidents dating back to the 1990s. Combs has consistently denied these allegations, calling them false and defamatory.

Similarly, in 2023, actress Evan Rachel Wood accused musician Marilyn Manson of sexual abuse during their relationship from 2006 to 2011. Manson denied the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit against Wood, which he later dropped, agreeing to pay $327,000 for her legal fees.

These cases underscore the vulnerability of models, actresses and others working under the direction of powerful figures in the entertainment industry. The inherent power dynamics can create environments where abuse goes unchecked, and victims may feel pressured to remain silent due to fear of retaliation or damage to their careers.

Addressing these issues requires systemic change, including the implementation of strict codes of conduct, comprehensive training on consent and harassment, and the establishment of safe channels for reporting misconduct. Only through such measures can the industry move toward a culture of respect and accountability, ensuring that all individuals can work without fear of exploitation.
