Roblox has agreed to more than $10 million in financial commitments and a series of child-safety measures to resolve concerns raised by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, ABC affiliate KMBC News Channel 9 reported.
Under the agreement announced Sept. 30, Roblox will pay $9.8 million to the attorney general’s office over three years and fund a $500,000 public-awareness campaign focused on online child safety in Kansas.
The company also agreed to maintain or expand protections involving age verification, parental controls, chat restrictions and Robux transfers.
Settlement Requires New Child Safety Measures
The Kansas agreement focuses heavily on limiting interactions between children and unknown adults.
Roblox agreed to continue or implement safeguards that include age assurance, age-grouped chat settings, stronger parental controls and restrictions on certain Robux transfers.
The company will also designate a Kansas-based law-enforcement specialist to assist with investigations and hire a professional with child internet-safety experience to help oversee safety policies.
If Roblox fails to comply with the agreement, it could face an additional $10 million in damages.
Kansas Will Receive Nearly $10 Million
Roblox will pay $9.8 million directly to the Kansas Attorney General’s Office over three years.
The separate $500,000 public-awareness campaign will be aimed at Kansas families and focus on online child safety.
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said the settlement is intended to give parents more meaningful controls while giving investigators better tools when safety concerns arise.
Agreement Comes Amid Nationwide Scrutiny of Roblox
Kansas is one of several states and local governments that have taken action against Roblox over allegations that the platform has not done enough to protect children from predators and sexual exploitation.
West Virginia and Alabama, South Dakota, and Nevada have previously reached settlements with the company, while several states have filed lawsuits. Los Angeles County is also pursuing litigation accusing Roblox of exposing children to sexual exploitation and misleading families about platform safety.
Roblox also faces more than 180 federal lawsuits that are consolidated in a multidistrict litigation (MDL) filed by parents alleging children were sexually abused or exploited after interactions that began on the platform.
Those cases are separate from the Kansas settlement but reflect the same broader concern: whether Roblox’s safety systems adequately distinguish children from adults and prevent predators from using the platform to contact minors.
Roblox Says Settlement Could Serve as a Model
Roblox said it worked collaboratively with Kansas officials and described the agreement as a potential model for cooperation between regulators and technology companies.
The company has introduced several child-safety changes in 2026, including expanded age verification, more restrictive chat access and additional parental controls.
The Kansas settlement puts some of those measures into a formal enforcement agreement while adding state-specific financial commitments and oversight.
Families may have legal options when online platforms fail to adequately protect children from predators.
