Foster Father Of Turpin Children Sentenced to Seven Years For Abuse

Foster care abuse Turpin case
The disturbing saga of the 13 Turpin children continues as the man that fostered the kids after their horrific imprisonment at the hands of their biological parents has been sentenced to prison for continuing the abuse.

The foster father of the 13 Turpin children has been sentenced to seven years in prison for abusing the siblings placed in his care. Marcelino Olguin of Perris, CA was sentenced on October 21, 2024, in Riverside County Superior Court by Judge Gail O’Rane, following his conviction on charges including lewd acts on a child, false imprisonment, and physical abuse. His wife, Rosa Olguin, and their daughter, Lennys, were also implicated in the case and received probation for their roles in the mistreatment, Helen Jeong of NBC News 4 Los Angeles reported.

The children were placed with the Olguin family after being rescued in 2018 from their biological parents, David and Louise Turpin, who are now serving 25 years to life for keeping their 13 children imprisoned and malnourished in a “house of horrors” in Perris, California. The appealing conditions in the Turpin household were uncovered in January 2018 when then-17-year-old Jordan Turpin, escaped through a window and called 911.

Instead of finding refuge, however, the siblings endured further trauma in the foster home, where they were reportedly hit with sandals and forced to recount their past abuse.

The case has ignited public outrage, with attorneys representing the children now pursuing lawsuits against Riverside County and ChildNet, the agency responsible for placing the children. They allege systemic failures and negligence, emphasizing that the Olguins were entrusted with the children despite warnings about the household. An attorney representing some of the children criticized the agencies and stated that the children were saved from one nightmare only to be placed in another. The lawsuits seek both financial compensation for the victims and accountability from social services officials.

This latest development has amplified demands for systemic reform in foster care, with advocates calling for greater oversight and safeguards to prevent vulnerable children from falling through the cracks. The lawsuits also highlight broader concerns about financial incentives within foster care systems, which sometimes prioritize funding over children’s welfare.
