Futures Without Violence: Building a World Where Healing and Safety Come First

Futures Without Violence

Violence doesn’t just harm the body — it reshapes lives, families, and futures. Futures Without Violence (FUTURES) is working to build a world where safety, respect, and equity replace cycles of trauma.

Since 1980, FUTURES has led national and international efforts to prevent and end domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and gender-based violence. Their approach is wide-ranging and intersectional, recognizing that preventing violence means engaging not only survivors, but also health care providers, educators, employers, coaches, lawmakers, and entire communities.

From trauma-informed public policy to survivor-centered healthcare models, Futures Without Violence focuses on solutions that don’t just react to harm — they reimagine what’s possible.

What They Do

FUTURES combines aspects of public health, justice reform, and education. Their programs span across:

  • Health & Trauma: Training healthcare professionals to recognize and respond to domestic and sexual violence with empathy and support.
  • Workplace & Economic Justice: Supporting survivors through employment protections, housing rights, and financial empowerment.
  • Children & Youth: Preventing violence through early education, coaching, and parental support.
  • Legal & Policy Advocacy: Advancing survivor protections and trauma-informed legislation across the U.S.

They are also known for pioneering culturally specific resources for survivors who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrants, and others historically excluded from mainstream services.

A Survivor-Centered Approach

What makes Futures Without Violence stand out is its commitment to healing-centered systems. Their work emphasizes not just stopping harm, but rebuilding lives through dignity, safety, and community.

Whether it’s helping a hospital create a warm handoff to a survivor support network, or training a high school coach to model respect and consent, their initiatives are designed to prevent violence before it begins — and to support survivors every step of the way.

Global Vision, Local Impact

FUTURES partners with organizations across the U.S. and around the world to support trauma-informed solutions tailored to local needs. Whether it’s advocating for stronger legal protections, or helping someone stay safely housed while escaping abuse, their reach is broad — but always rooted in individual dignity.
