When we talk about sexual abuse, men are often left out of the conversation. But statistics don’t lie: at least 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual abuse or assault in their lifetime — and those are just the ones who report it.

That’s why 1in6 exists.

Founded to support male survivors, 1in6 is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping men — including those who are trans, non-binary, or gender-nonconforming — heal from the often-overlooked trauma of sexual abuse. Whether the experience happened in childhood or adulthood, 1in6 offers safe, affirming resources to help survivors move forward without shame.

Breaking the Silence

For many male survivors, the barriers to seeking help are steep. Stigma, disbelief, toxic masculinity, and internalized guilt often delay healing by years — even decades. 1in6 was created to break that silence and provide male survivors with validation, tools, and support tailored to their unique needs.

At its core, 1in6 offers a judgment-free space to say:

“What happened to you matters. And it wasn’t your fault.”

What 1in6 Offers

1in6 provides a range of trauma-informed services and resources, including:

  • Free and anonymous 24/7 online support chat (in partnership with RAINN)
  • Weekly online support groups led by trained facilitators
  • Resource library with articles, videos, and personal stories
  • Therapist-finding tools and guidance for starting the healing process
  • Outreach and advocacy to raise awareness and challenge misconceptions about male survivors

Their services are free, confidential, and available to anyone who identifies as male and has experienced unwanted or abusive sexual experiences.

Centering Lived Experience

What sets 1in6 apart is its unwavering focus on lived experience. Many of the staff, volunteers, and content creators are survivors themselves. That perspective informs every resource, ensuring it reflects the complicated emotions male survivors often face: confusion, rage, numbness, shame — and eventually, resilience.

Whether you’re ready to talk, just beginning to process, or unsure what healing might look like, 1in6 meets you where you are.
