The University of Oregon has alerted students after five sexual assaults were reported on or near its Eugene campus within a single week, ABC News affiliate News Channel 9 KEZI reported.

Four of the reported assaults involved University of Oregon students. A fifth occurred near Alton Baker Dog Park, which borders university property, and resulted in an arrest.

University and Eugene police do not currently believe the incidents are connected. Investigators said several of the alleged assaults may have involved social settings where alcohol had been consumed.

Police Investigating Multiple Reports

The University of Oregon Police Department and Eugene Police Department are investigating the cases.

Officials have not released detailed information about the individual incidents.

The university said nonconsensual sexual activity is prohibited and reminded students that intoxication, silence or submission do not constitute consent.

Students affected by the reported assaults have been offered support services through the university.

University Offers Rides, Escorts and Crisis Support

The university is reminding students about several campus safety resources.

Duck Rides provides free nighttime transportation seven days a week from 6 p.m. to midnight. University police also offer campus escorts and free self-defense workshops.

Students who have experienced sexual or domestic violence can contact the university’s 24-hour SAFE hotline at 541-346-7233. University Counseling Services also provides crisis support.

Similar Concerns Have Surfaced at Other Universities

The cluster of reports at Oregon is unusual in its concentration, but it is not isolated from broader campus sexual misconduct concerns around the country.

At UCLA, campus police records showed multiple sex-crime reports during the summer of 2026. In July alone, UCPD logged two rape reports, one sexual battery report and eight indecent exposure reports that did not result in active police cases. In June, the department recorded one rape report and three sexual battery reports among nine sex-crime events that did not become active cases.

Those examples underscore why colleges are required under the Clery Act to publish campus crime statistics and issue timely warnings when certain reported crimes may pose an ongoing threat. Reported numbers can vary widely depending on how incidents are classified, whether survivors choose to report and whether a case becomes an active police investigation.
