Prosecutors allege Ford used his position as a priest to exploit a child with disabilities more than a decade ago while serving at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Orleans. The case began when the now-adult survivor disclosed the alleged abuse to his mother in late 2024, prompting an investigation by local authorities. According to police reports, the alleged incidents occurred at the family’s home during visits connected to a church program for children with disabilities. The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office described the allegations as a “deeply serious and disturbing breach of trust,” emphasizing its commitment to pursuing justice while protecting the survivor’s privacy. “Our hearts and our focus are with the survivor and their family,” the office said in a statement. “Their strength in coming forward is extraordinary, and this Office stands firmly beside them with empathy and unwavering support.” The Archdiocese of New Orleans said it had received no prior complaints about Ford before his arrest, noting that the investigation remains in law enforcement’s hands. The Vincentians, the religious order Ford once belonged to, confirmed he was a member of their Southern Province at the time of the alleged offenses and left the order in 2006. “The offenses of which Mr. Ford is accused have no place in society, and we continue to pray for all victims of abuse,” the order stated. Ford remains in custody at Orleans Parish Prison as the case proceeds toward trial.
