Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has intensified his criticism of Roblox, accusing the company of ignoring widespread predator activity on its platform during a recent interview with Chris Hansen on Have A Seat. The investigation, which initially began as a civil inquiry, escalated into a criminal probe in October 2025 after his office uncovered what he described as “shocking cases” of grooming, child exploitation, and physical assault connected to interactions that allegedly started on Roblox.
Hansen, who has been conducting his own independent investigation, said he has received “thousands and thousands of allegations” involving predators contacting, grooming, and paying minors through Robux. He called Roblox “a playground for predators,” emphasizing that the platform is marketed to children as young as four years old.
Uthmeier echoed those concerns, asserting that Roblox “has operated and made a lot of money while knowing that it’s the breeding ground for child predators, but they’ve known that and have not done enough to stop it.” According to the attorney general, investigators identified repeated instances of adults using Roblox to initiate contact with minors before shifting conversations to outside platforms such as Discord, where they allegedly solicited explicit photos and personal information.
The attorney general further accused the company of failing to ban known predators and suggested that such inaction could rise to the level of criminal behavior. His office has issued criminal subpoenas to determine what Roblox knew about cases in which predators allegedly paid minors in Robux for explicit sexual content and whether the company financially benefited from those exchanges.
Roblox has responded by stating that it has “no tolerance” for illegal behavior and pointing to more than 100 new safety initiatives introduced in 2025. These measures include facial age estimation tools and new restrictions designed to prevent younger users from chatting with adults. However, Uthmeier has stated that these updates fall short and expressed hope that the criminal investigation will force the company “to get their house in order,” while also warning that other platforms could face similar scrutiny if they fail to protect children online.
