Summary: A mother says a popular gaming platform failed her family after a hidden threat slipped past its safeguards. What the lawsuit claims happened to her son may shock many parents.

A Cuyahoga County mother has filed a federal lawsuit against Roblox, alleging that the platform created conditions that allowed predators to target her son. The complaint was filed in the Northern District of California, where the company is headquartered, Cleveland News Channel 19 reported.

According to the lawsuit, her son was an active Roblox user until he was subjected to what the filing describes as a pattern of grooming and manipulation. The mother believed Roblox had adequate safety measures and relied on the company’s public statements about child protection.

The lawsuit alleges that in 2024, when the child was 11, he unknowingly interacted with an adult predator who pretended to be another child. After gaining his trust, the individual allegedly escalated the grooming behavior by sending graphic messages and sexual images of himself. The predator then attempted to coerce the boy into sending images in return. When he resisted, the predator allegedly threatened his family, and the child complied out of fear.

According to the filing, this occurred because of what the lawsuit describes as misleading safety assurances from Roblox, which the mother believed would shield her son from harm. The complaint argues that the platform creates an environment in which children feel safe while being easily reachable by adults who seek to exploit them.

The lawsuit also claims that the law firm uncovered Roblox experiences with names referencing high profile figures and themes tied to disturbing pop culture elements. These titles allegedly include “Diddy Party,” “Survive Diddy,” “JeffEpsteinSupporter,” and “Escape to Epstein Island.”

The family is seeking unspecified monetary damages for the psychological and emotional harm that the boy experienced. According to the lawsuit, the child now endures persistent fear, shame, and trauma, as well as a loss of trust and a sense of safety.

This case is one of several lawsuits filed across the United States alleging that Roblox exposes young users to adults who engage in grooming, harassment, or other forms of sexual exploitation. Parents nationwide have claimed that the platform’s safety controls are either inadequate or easily bypassed. Roblox denies wrongdoing but continues to face scrutiny from lawmakers, safety advocates, and families who argue that stronger protections are needed to prevent predators from contacting minors. U.S. States’ Attorneys General have filed lawsuits against Roblox and have also launched investigations.
